Document Legalisation for South Korea

Document Legalisation for South Korea

We process many documents each week for clients intending to use their documents in South Korea. The majority of the people who we process documents for are clients who are going over for teaching purposes to work in the many International Schools based there. Usually there are specific documents which do need to be legalised in order for clients to be accepted for work in South Korea.

Academic Documents

Typically when looking to start work overseas you will need to have one or more of your academic documents legalised, this is no different for South Korea. The authorities requesting documents in South Korea will normally request that you have your highest qualification legalised by apostille. This can vary though so we would recommend that you check this with the people requesting your documents. It is common practice that we legalise copies of educational documents which are to be legalised and presented in South Korea. Only a small minority of clients ask that we process the original certificates although we do recommend you contact your future employer for clarification.

Criminal Record Checks

As well as academic documents it is usual authorities in South Korea will also request that you have a criminal record check legalised. The most common documents which we process are Basic Disclosures or DBS documents. We are only able to process the originals of these documents and you will need to post the original document to our office. These documents are requested so that the prospective employers can ensure that you have no previous convictions in your home country before allowing you to work with children.

Academic documents and criminal record checks are the two most common documents we see being processed for clients going to work in South Korea. However, occasionally we do see that other documents are required. For example, if you are applying for a South Korean driving licence for when you move out there you will need to have your UK Driving Licence legalised with the apostille.

Before proceeding with legalising specific documents we always recommend that you check with the people requesting your documents exactly what they want you to present. This will ensure that you only have the correct documents legalised and can look to begin work in South Korea as quickly as possible.
