If you want to live in Spain for longer than 6 months without working, you will need to apply for one of several types of visas with the Spanish Consulate in London.

UK citizens who want to live in Spain can apply for a Non-Lucrative Residence Visa. Often referred to as a Non-Lucrative Visa – NLV. This is done through the Spanish Consulate, and you need to meet the new requirements and provide supporting documents with associated UK apostille certificates and translations.

The visa lasts for 12 months, after which you can renew the visa or apply for a different type of visa.

The standard documents most commonly required are –

• ACRO – Criminal Record Background Check

• Marriage Certificate – If applying for 2 visas for a married couple – This must be newly issued (a duplicate from the registrar) within the last 3 months

You will also need to provide translations that meet the Spanish Consulate requirements. They must be prepared correctly and sworn.
