Legalisation of South African documents
Update – We are no long able to assist with this service.
The process for legalising a South African document is comparable to the process for legalising a UK document. In South Africa, the apostille is issued by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) or by the High Court of South Africa.
Documents issued by the South African Department of Home Affairs or the South African Police Service
Documents issued by the South African Department of Home Affairs or the South African Police Service are eligible to receive the apostille without any further certification. Documents of this nature should be presented to the DIRCO.
Academic documents from South Africa
Documents of an academic nature must be firstly verified by either Umalusi, The Department of Basic Education or The Department of Higher Education first depending on with authority issued the document. The verification letter is then issued with the apostille as opposed to the actual degree or diploma certificate.
Other document types from South Africa
The process for other documents is slightly different. Divorce documents, court documents, medical reports, POA documents, identification documents etc. must be notarised by a South African Notary initially. The documents should then be presented to the High Court of South Africa for an Apostille.
PLEASE NOTE – WE NO LONGER OFFER A SOUTH AFRICAN APOSTILLE SERVICE
