Legalising a Marriage Certificate for a Spanish Visa

In a previous article we outlined what documents are typically needed when applying for a Spanish Visa. A common document required for this purpose is a marriage certificate. Unusually, the Spanish authorities insist on the document being issued within the last 3 months as evidence the persons are still married. We understand this does not actually prove the persons are still married but advise following the guidance provided by the Spanish authorities to prevent any delays with the visa application.

The guidance provided for this is as follows –

“The Spanish Foreigners’ Office (Extranjería) will usually require your marriage certificate to have been both issued and legalised in the last 3 months. You need to check with your local Spanish Foreigners’ Office as to whether a certificate older than 3 months, but legalised in the last 3 months, would be acceptable.”
